Today, Monday, August 29th is Grilled Cheese Day at Slashfood.
Warning: May smell like feat.
My family always has a relish tray at get-togethers. The relish tray includes cubes of cheddar cheese (I prefer sharp cheddar), cut-up sweet pickles and black olives as staples. Crudités are included as well and vary depending upon who is making the relish tray. I know it sounds odd, but the sweet pickles and cheese are meant to be eaten together. I don't like sweet pickles on their own, but with a nice chunk of sharp cheddar, the combined taste is delicious. One or another of my family members can usually be found standing right next to the relish tray, toothpick in hand, stabbing piece after piece of pickles and cheese.
I was in the States this past weekend for a family reunion. We spent one morning at a little farmer's market, where I purchased some muenster (pronounced "munster") cheese. For you Canadians, muenster cheese is an incredibly common cheese in the US, much like provolone or havarti here, but for some reason, it is VERY hard to find in Canada, and when it can be found, it is usually quite expensive. I grew up on this stuff (having lived in the US until I was nearly 12), and I always make a point of getting some when I go down there. I got a good-sized chuck of cheese and proceeded to eat it plain, ripping cheese straight off the block.
A friend mentioned Seastar Restaurant in Seattle, so I was browsing through their menu and I happened upon a delicious-sounding grilled cheese sandwich. A grilled cheese and crab sandwich is one of my favorites. This is a little pricey, so I hope it has a lot of crab in it.
